Natalie Luckham Twitter Hour

The Athena Network host a weekly Twitter Hour on Monday’s from 8-9pm. To get involved with the chat you are able to follow by using the hashtag #Athenabizhour.

Each week will feature an expert in their field or a focused Networking & Strategy Topic . It is a fabulous forum to ask and answer each others questions around the topic or profession, share advice tips and testimonials.

It is also a great opportunity to connect with fellow members, Regional Directors and visitors from around the UK and beyond.

This week Natalie Luckham from Naturally Social was our expert and the topic was ‘”Top tips and tactics to outshine your competitors on social media”  Below are some of the highlights:

1. Too many businesses rely on automation – scheduling, rss feeds, auto posting. Put the social back into your social media

2. Improve your reputation by checking your social media frequently. Responding days later to a tweet/comment is too slow.

@NlySocial I look at automation in times of necessity rather than convenience

3. Social evolves all the time & early adopters are always rewarded. Pay attention & experiment. #Snapchat anyone?

4. Some #SmallBiz do better on smaller channels instead of battling with more established ones. Dare to be different?

5. “If you’re not moving forwards, you’re moving backwards” – @garyvee

6. If you aren’t using video yet…you should be. Gone are the days when a simple link with a picture makes you stand out.

7. When creating content ask – does this inspire, entertain or educate? How do you add value online?

8. Value your communities. Nurture them, support them & show them you care. However that looks.

9. Communicate. Don’t just broadcast! Invest time to engage, not enough businesses do this. This is how you build loyalty

10. My 3 C’s for #socialmedia success: Community, Communication & Creativity.

70% of the Internet is now made up of video content…
@NlySocial Video: It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be real

Do you pay attention to what your competitors do on social media?

I do…but there’s a balance. It can be distracting – especially when you’re flying solo. But I also learn

@NlySocial yes I do. I also follow my industry magazines and peers for info and reviewing purposes too
@PinpointMktg absolutely

@NlySocial Definitely, although there’s a fine line! Can only do so much, hey?!!

How does social media fit in with your personal development plans – i.e. do you always look to keep learning?

With Social Media developments moving so fast you can only stay on track by learning every day new things

@NlySocial True. do fewer profiles well than lots with not much content or continuity

That’s the advice I give my clients. Focus on 1-2 platforms and master those first
Social media moves fast so you need to keep learning #AthenaBizHour

What Athena Members Say …

Nicky Fitzmaurice

"Athena Networking has been the making of me! I have made more friends and learnt more about business tools and networking strategy in the last year than I ever thought possible. Athena’s focus on training members to be the best that they can be, whilst in a supportive and nurturing environment, gave me the confidence to learn and grow which in turn allowed my business to do the same. It is this, that is the heart of Athena. No hard sell amongst the members, we encourage one another to help where we can. I always come away from a meeting inspired and bubbling with ideas on how to grow my business. It’s a fabulous way to live, learn and grow. Nicky Fitzmaurice

Selena Ludick

“The Athena network can be distinguished from any other networking group I attend. Its structure and form mean that members who attend are committed and dedicated to proactive networking which on turn achieves tangible results.  This benefits me and my firm,  in just a two  hour monthly meeting I have the opportunity to talk to other business women about me, my business and what I need and how I can be helped.  The environment for delivering this is focused and professional. As a result referrals are made and recommendations given which, for me achieves increased clients and in turn builds greater contacts.  As a busy business women Athena also provides a forum to connect with other business women on a social / friendship basis so “all work and no play does not make this Jill a dull girl” Athena motivates me, strengthens my vision, equips and endorses me but most of all provides the fuel every business women needs to keep raising her game and stepping up to the mark.”

Working mostly on my own, I really appreciate the positive camaraderie of the Athena women. Whatever need or concern one has, there is always someone able, and enthusiastically willing, to help with good advice. I find the interaction tremendously stimulating and enjoyable - and highly instructive. A wonderful group to see regularly, with excellent opportunities to meet other interesting and skilled women at training days. Thank you Athena!
