Linda Huckle Twitter Hour

The Athena Network host a weekly Twitter Hour on Monday’s from 8-9pm.  To get involved with the chat you are able to follow by using the hashtag #Athenabizhour.

Each week will feature an expert in their field.  They will be available to answer your questions around their profession, and to offer fabulous advice and tips, that you can transfer to your own businesses.

It is also a great opportunity to connect with fellow members, Regional Directors and visitors from around the UK and beyond.

Last week we were joined by Linda Huckle, Regional Director of The Athena Network and ‘The Confidence Expert’. Here a summary from last weeks #AthenaBizHour

Any tips for voice projection?

Tip 1, Take a deep breath in, feel the diaphragm move out, then as you breathe out, the diaphragm moves in – and speak.

Tip 2, Take a deep breath between statements. Practice in the garden! You should not feel any voice strain.

Tip 3, Try some vocal exercises to gain confidence and ask for feedback from a colleague

Tip 4 – Join a singing group or choir, good techniques in helping voice projection.

I’m chairing my very 1st meeting tomorrow. Worried that I’ll talk too fast & wrong my hands. Tips?

If talking too fast, try pronouncing the end of each word – it will slow you. Newsreader style!

What to do with your hands while presenting?

#1 hand and facial gestures are so important in communicating a message

#2 jot down salient points in a notepad. If no need for notes, use hand gestures naturally. Shows interest!

What advice would you give to someone speaking publicly for the first time?

Seek advice and help from an expert, then practice, practice, practice.

There’s always room to improve, even the best speakers go to speakers clubs and ask for feedback

Is #confidence natural or can it be learned? What do you think? ~ Question from Linda Huckle

I believe it can be learnt. Certainly the way for me. @Networkbarefoot

It can be learnt – so many experts out there can help. A mentor can be life changing. @Athena_BWValley

I think it’s both and depends so much on where you are personally as well as professionally @Carolineegeorge

Yes, I’ve certainly had my moments when my confidence has dipped. Often its the smallest thing! @Athena_BWValley

I think a little of both, I’m confident but there is still many ways to improve. @Jess_ATEsocial

I think it comes with experience. The more you push your boundaries the more confident you become. @envisionacc

Keep hands free when presenting. If you are a fiddler that is what you – and your audience – will focus on

What Athena Members Say …

Nicky Fitzmaurice

"Athena Networking has been the making of me! I have made more friends and learnt more about business tools and networking strategy in the last year than I ever thought possible. Athena’s focus on training members to be the best that they can be, whilst in a supportive and nurturing environment, gave me the confidence to learn and grow which in turn allowed my business to do the same. It is this, that is the heart of Athena. No hard sell amongst the members, we encourage one another to help where we can. I always come away from a meeting inspired and bubbling with ideas on how to grow my business. It’s a fabulous way to live, learn and grow. Nicky Fitzmaurice

Selena Ludick

“The Athena network can be distinguished from any other networking group I attend. Its structure and form mean that members who attend are committed and dedicated to proactive networking which on turn achieves tangible results.  This benefits me and my firm,  in just a two  hour monthly meeting I have the opportunity to talk to other business women about me, my business and what I need and how I can be helped.  The environment for delivering this is focused and professional. As a result referrals are made and recommendations given which, for me achieves increased clients and in turn builds greater contacts.  As a busy business women Athena also provides a forum to connect with other business women on a social / friendship basis so “all work and no play does not make this Jill a dull girl” Athena motivates me, strengthens my vision, equips and endorses me but most of all provides the fuel every business women needs to keep raising her game and stepping up to the mark.”

Working mostly on my own, I really appreciate the positive camaraderie of the Athena women. Whatever need or concern one has, there is always someone able, and enthusiastically willing, to help with good advice. I find the interaction tremendously stimulating and enjoyable - and highly instructive. A wonderful group to see regularly, with excellent opportunities to meet other interesting and skilled women at training days. Thank you Athena!
