What Athena Members Say …

Alison Joshi, Graphic Designer, Athena Shepherds Bush Member

"After 2 years of running my own business and getting work mainly from referrals I decided that I needed to re-focus on my work and push it to the next level and apparently networking was the new buzz word for businesses. I was aware of Athena and decided to come along as a guest to Shepherd’s Bush to see what this networking was all about. I was made to feel very welcome and the group felt supportive and relaxed. I decided that I would take the opportunity and become a member as my profession hadn’t been locked out.

I joined Athena primarily to meet fellow like-minded business owners who might one day need my services or who would also recommend me to their fellow peers.

After being a member for a year I have gained so much more than referrals. I have gained a huge amount of confidence, not only running my own business but also learning how to talk about what I do. Graphic design covers a broad spectrum of work and I have had to learn how to explain what I do to business owners that may never have thought about graphic design before.

Working from home can sometimes be quite lonely and so knowing that once a month you are going to spend a few hours chatting to people who may have been having the same work or family frustrations as you is also good therapy.

Athena has introduced me to a group of talented and ambitious women who are all trying to build businesses in challenging economic times. It’s an inspiring group to be part of and I know I have made contacts that I will take with me on my business journey.

Narmeen, Gemstone Tech

"Athena has been instrumental in launching our business. Not only has it helped maintain our client pipeline but has provided all the help, support and many suppliers we have needed. I was transitioning from an intense corporate profession, so my learning curve was and still is enormous. Athena has significantly reduced this timescale. Its wonderful to work with like minded women with no politics and an intelligent army who think of the services we provide when they are networking elsewhere"

Helen Bantock, Helen Bantock Web Design

"I joined Athena SW London a few months ago. Not knowing what to expect I have been so surprised at all the support the group has given me. Apart from a new client straight away I have learnt so much from the other talent in the group. Raiding other people’s knowledge banks has been invaluable and added to my professional and personal development. In time I hope I equal these contributions. Jo Sumner has given us good training and has a very creative and innovative approach to mentoring members. Apart from business support and growth I am really enjoying my Athena membership.”

Claudia Whitehouse, Citizen Arc

"Since joining Athena in February, this year, our small computer training and support company, Citizenarc, has taken off. We have made so many valuable contacts that we are now planning to expand our company.
Support, help and encouragement, from Athena members and Joanne Sumner has given us the confidence to do so.”
